Was going to do another The Metrics System post for today, on FIP this time, but...well...maybe tomorrow.
- So Carlton Fisk said some crazy angry, if mostly probably correct, things about steroid users and baseball. I'm not going to link to that interview (which has since been parroted by ESPN), because they deleted the part he said that was really, really stupid, which just strikes me as irresponsible and unjournalistlike. Luckily, before it was taken down, JoePoz caught it and went to town on it. Brilliant stuff.
- You know how everybody always talks about how much those Canadians love their Charlie Brown? Well, that's because I totally just made that up, but someone on Canadian radio came across Lar's brilliant Peanuts baseball series and interviewed the man himself for a radio program called "As It Happens." You can hear the interview here, starting at about the 15:08 mark. It may be the case that I can't get it to work on my home computer and am putting it here largely to make sure I remember to listen to it at work tomorrow, but regardless, give it a listen (and the pieces a read, if you somehow haven't yet).
- I mentioned this in passing yesterday, but holy crap is Marty Noble full of it. There's a lot of pompous sportswriting out there and there's a lot of awful and senseless sportswriting out there, and for that matter there's a lot of pompous, awful and senseless sportswriting out there, but I don't know if I've ever seen anything that combines all those elements quite as well as this piece did.
- I like this for so many reasons: Bengie Molina is Jay Leno to Buster Posey's Conan O'Brien. Pretty clever. Hopefully Posey will step up on Fox in Spring Training and immediately show the Giants what a terrible, terrible mistake they've made. Of course, Josh at Jorge Says No! says it all in one sentence: "To me, this move represents everything that is wrong with the Giants right now."
- Never pass up a chance to make fun of Pete Rose. Apparently a friend of mine ran into him hanging out at an airport bar in Vegas the other day, which seems like just about where he should always be.
